About this event

What if the very qualities that drive our success are also the ones keeping us stuck in survival mode? In a world that celebrates ambition, achievement and relentless resilience, we often mistake the ability to keep functioning for the ability to truly thrive. But resilience isn't simply about mental toughness, positive thinking or pushing through adversity. It is shaped by the complex interaction between our cognitive patterns, psychological conditioning and biological stress responses — systems that influence how we think, feel, behave, perform and connect with others. In this thought-provoking talk, mental health practitioner and professional speaker Louise Niemann combines psychological science with her own extraordinary journey through adversity, survival and personal transformation to challenge conventional ideas about resilience and success. Drawing on insights from psychology, neuroscience and lived experience, Louise explores how unconscious survival strategies can become barriers to growth, why high performance doesn't always mean psychological wellbeing, and how greater self-awareness, nervous system regulation and authenticity can unlock more sustainable ways of living and leading. Because true resilience isn't just about surviving what life throws at us. It's about developing the capacity to move beyond survival — and build a life and identity that are genuinely our own.
